Dr. Anup Kubal is a board certified ophthalmologist who completed a Subspecialty Fellowship in Cornea, External Diseases and Refractive Surgery. Dr. Kubal specializes in refractive cataract surgery, including Femtosecond Laser Cataract surgery, the latest technology allowing for the correction of astigmatism during cataract surgery. He has expertise in premium intraocular lenses that correct astigmatism and allow for excellent distance and reading vision after cataract surgery without glasses. Dr. Kubal also specialize in iStent surgery, the newest technology to lower intraocular pressure for patients with glaucoma at the time of cataract surgery. As a refractive surgeon, he performs LASIK evaluations and procedures, and has expertise in all aspects of corneal transplantation.
Dr. Kubal received his Bachelor of Arts Summa Cum Laude in Biochemical Sciences from Harvard University in Massachusetts. After attending medical school at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, he fulfilled an internship at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center at Columbia University. Completing his Ophthalmology residency at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins Hospital in Maryland, he finished his education with a Cornea Subspecialty Fellowship at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami. Dr. Kubal has been on faculty at the University of Florida in Gainesville from 2010 to 2016, where he served as Director of the Refractive Surgery service and Director of Medical Student Education in Ophthalmology.
Dr. Kubal is board certified with the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the International Society of Refractive Surgery, and the Florida Society of Ophthalmology. Dr. Kubal has authored several peer reviewed journal articles and book chapters relating to cornea and cataract surgery, and has lectured about these topics at national ophthalmology meetings.
